skin-imageIt affects thousands of women in North America, and hundreds of skin care companies have jumped on the band wagon creating and marketing anti cellulite products. Do they all work? Heck no. Actually, few will actually produce the results that you’re probably expecting to get.

So should you be considering other alternatives besides cellulite lotion? Possibly. In this post we’re going to look at a few effective cellulite treatments and weigh the pros and cons of each. Hopefully after reading this you’ll be able to make a decision about which treatment procedure is right for you.

Spa and Surgical Treatments

Most major cities have clinics offering both Mesotherapy and Endermologie®. Each of these procedures is targeted at reducing the size and appearance of fat cells trapped under the skin known as cellulite.

Getting rid of cellulite doesn’t actually mean that the fat cells are gone. Rather it’s the process of reducing the appearance of cellulite dimples that are visible on the skins surface. It’s these dimples that make us feel uncomfortable at the beach or when wearing shorts and skirts.

Injections as a Treatment

Mesotherapy is the process of small needles (micro injections) being injected just below the skins surface. A solution of amino acids, vitamins and minerals is injected to reduce the appearance of dimples on the surface. You require multiple sessions to see drastic results and sessions are usually done twice monthly.  Costs can vary for this treatment method up to $100 per session.

There is little risk of any long term damage, and the side effects of Mesotherapy are generally only a slight burning sensation during the session and some soreness or tenderness for 3-5 days after a session. There’s the slight chance that you could be allergic to the injections, how ever most clinics do allergy testing prior to treatment beginning.

Massage Machine as a Treatment

Endermologie®, also performed by a clinic, uses a small machine with two rollers and slight suction. Think of it as a massage type machine. The rollers fold over the top layers of fat and skin to stretch out the connective tissues.  After the stretch your skin is left looking smoother. If you actually take measurements before and after the treatment the measurements will decrease.

This unfortunately is not a long term result and to maintain results you must keep up Endermologie® treatment sessions. Each session cost around $100. Some clinics will offer discounts if multiple sessions are purchased up front. There’s minimal risk involved, but can cause some slight discomfort during the treatment.

Cellulite Lotions as an Alternative

After reading about the above two cellulite treatment methods you probably understand why so many women opt to try cellulite removal cream first. The cost is much less then a single treatment session of Endermologie® or Mesotherapy, and there are no painful side effects during or after application.

The primary draw back to using a cellulite cream to reduce the appearance of cellulite dimples is not every cream works as well as another. Finding the right product can be a challenge so you must be willing to do your research before you buy.

There are lots of review and comparison websites on the Internet, as well as skin care forums where you can chat with other women trying to get rid of cellulite. Try your best not to get caught up in marketing and advertising because every company believes their lotion is the best solution.
